A NOTE ON THE REFERENCE

Deck & interpretations

Choose a deck in Settings. Artwork and symbol observations change with it. The general tarot meanings and keywords provide a common learning reference; they are not the individual deck creators’ guidebook text. Deviant Moon and The Wild Unknown use Justice VIII and Strength XI; the other included decks use Strength VIII and Justice XI.

The keywords, reading phrases and symbol notes are original learning summaries of common modern interpretations. They are suggestions for reflection, rather than fixed definitions or quotations from A. E. Waite. Reversed cards can suggest blocked, internalised or changing energy; they are not always the opposite of upright cards.

Artwork: Pamela Colman Smith, originally published by William Rider & Son (1909), via the public-domain Roses & Lilies scans on Wikimedia Commons.

For the original historical descriptions and meanings, read A. E. Waite’s The Pictorial Key to the Tarot. Its interpretations sometimes differ from the modern learning summaries here.

Additional artwork: Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti; Deviant Moon Tarot by Patrick Valenza; Cat Tarot by Megan Lynn Kott; The Wild Unknown Tarot and Animal Spirit by Kim Krans; Clow Cards by CLAMP. Clow meanings use brief Fortune Book themes through its English fan translation; Animal Spirit meanings paraphrase named reader hejyork. Each oracle card links to its meaning source. App reflection prompts and artwork observations are labelled separately. Tarot image sources are linked in Settings; oracle image sources are linked below each card. Animal Spirit uses English card photographs from Unlocking Words. Artwork remains credited to its creators. Symbol notes are original observations with suggested interpretations, rather than quotations from the deck guidebooks.
